The first Wednesday of the month is here and time for another Inspire, Create, and Share Blog Hop! This month’s theme is something special and near to my heart, Courage.
There are many people in my life that have been impacted by cancer, including my own father. In 1996 my dad, whom I called Poppy (hence the poppies all over my blog), was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after we had moved to Iowa. Then a few years later, he was diagnosed with Leukemia.
Different types of cancer have different color awareness ribbons with brain tumor ribbons being gray and Leukemia being orange. There are many different awareness ribbons for different cancers. You can check them all out HERE. For my project this month, I wanted to highlight those two colors plus poppy flowers.
I finally had the time to use my new embossing paste. I was a little afraid to use it at first as it seemed a little intimidating, but I got the hang of it quickly and even used some Peekaboo Peach reinker to change the color of the paste.
Poppies are a symbol of remembrance. In 2010, my dad passed away a month after I become a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator. He was the first person to purchase one of my cards, which was for my mom. I have the first dollar framed and hung in my stamp room. My business name (Stampin’ Blondie) is actually a tribute to him as he called me Blondie growing up.
For my card, I used Jar of Love for holding the poppies from the Oh So Eclectic set. I stamped that on watercolor paper and used Soft Sky ink to stamp the water then an Aqua Painter to give a watercolor look. I stamped the poppies in Pumpkin Pie ink with Real Red layered over. I again used the Aqua Painter to blend it all together. For the sentiment, I used Colorful Seasons to bring the card together.
Very Pretty Card!
