Technique Tuesday – On a Wednesday!

Hi stampers! Its time for Technique Tuesday, but on a Wednesday this week! I meant to post yesterday but got busy and wasn’t able to, but I’m here today! This weeks technique is super simple and gives a great look to any type of card!
Who would have thought that using aluminum foil (the same stuff you use in your kitchen) could create such a great background when textured using an embossing folder?  This is a cheap, easy, quick and wonderful way to add a different element to your card and works great with masculine cards as well.
To start, you need a piece of cardstock 5 inches by 3.75 inches.  This can be any color cardstock (a GREAT way to use scrap paper or a color you may not love) since the cardstock will be covered with foil.  Cut a piece of foil bigger than your cardstock.  Make sure to give yourself enough space around the edges.  I like to make sure that the shiny side is up so that when I emboss, it will be embossing on the dull side as to not overpower the card.

Next, take ordinary scotch tape and fold each side over the cardstock like you are wrapping a present!

Once you have your paper fully ‘wrapped’ place into an embossing folder with the exposed cardstock facing down and foil side up.  I used the Spider Web embossing folder since I made a halloween card.

Doesn’t that look awesome! Now all you need to do is attach to a card base, embellish and you have a great card!

Supplies Used (all items from Stampin’ Up! except for foil):

Cardstock: Whisper White, Basic Black
Specialty Paper:  Howlstooth Designer Series Paper
Accessories: Aluminum Foil, Spider Web embossing folder, Apothecary Accents Framelits
Ink: Basic Gray, Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie

  1. This is just so great!! Easy to do with minimal supplies! Love it! I'd like to "case" this at a weekend crop I'm attending – I've volunteered to do a M&T and this would be ideal. Thanks again for sharing!!!
